Excelsior Norah Chardonnay 2018

Christine Norah-Ann de Wet RIP.

The Norah Chardonnay 2018 from Excelsior in Robertson pays tribute to Christine Norah-Ann de Wet, sister of owner Peter de Wet. She had a dramatic start to life being born during the Laingsburg floods of 1981, she and her mother trapped in hospital on the other side of the Kogmanskloof river for a time, later becoming both an academic and athletic achiever. Sadly, she was to die of cancer and hence this wine.

Matured for nine months in older French oak, the nose shows lemon, orange and pineapple plus a little leesy complexity and vanilla. The palate is rich and ripe with a pleasant sweet ‘n sour character. Only 1 000 bottles made. Price: R199.

Editor’s rating: 89/100.
