Fairview Broken Barrel White 2021
By Christian Eedes, 23 December 2022
Broken Barrel from Fairview is never the same wine twice, the current-release 2021 being a blend of 48% Roussanne, 47% Viognier, 3% Grenache Blanc and 2% Marsanne sourced from both Paarl and Darling, maturation lasting eight months in a combination of tank with staves and barrels.
The nose shows floral perfume, pear, peach and citrus plus a little vanilla and leesy character while the palate is juicy and fresh with a pithy finish. It’s relatively light bodied and quite delicate but still manages to hold your attention – good drinking at R115 a bottle.
CE’s rating: 90/100.
