First Sighting Shiraz 2013

Unadulterated fun.

Unlike previous vintages, the Shiraz 2013 under the First Sighting label (now redesigned by Fanakalo of Stellenbosch) as made by Elim producer Strandveld Vineyards doesn’t contain any Viognier and is the better for it.

Matured for 12 months in 300-litre, mostly second- and third-fill, barrels, the wine shows red and black fruit, and really intense spice. It’s medium bodied with lemon-like acidity, no real tannic grip to speak of but the finish still nicely savoury. A jolly good drop at R78 a bottle.

#WinemagRating: 88/100.
