Flotsam & Jetsam is a side project of wonderkids Chris and Suzaan Alheit of Alheit Vineyards, the idea being “hopefully to show that “workhorse grapes” can make lekker wine”. Tasting notes and ratings for the new releases as follows:
Flotsam & Jetsam Heirloom Chenin Blanc 2016
Port2Port price: R130
Pear, white and yellow peach, a little straw and some leesy complexity. Lovely concentration, fresh acidity and a savoury finish. Remarkable quality relative to price.
#WinemagRating: 92/100.
Flotsam & Jestsam Stalwart Cinsault 2016
Port2Port price: R130
Strawberry, pomegranate, flowers and spice on the nose. Light yet flavourful with zesty acidity and prickly tannins. Seems slighter, even more underdone than charming 2015 (see here).
#WinemagRating: 89/100.

Good job on managing to get something on paper before finishing that bottle of Cin. Mad typing skills.

The rest of the bottle will be with lunch today. An early lunch…
