Flotsam & Jetsam Cinsault 2017
By Christian Eedes, 19 December 2017
Alheit Vineyards are proudly a white-wine-only operation so how to accommodate the need for some quaffable red? Flotsam & Jetsam Cinsault is designed to be just that, grapes from a Darling vineyard some 40 years old, winemaking involving whole-bunch fermentation.
The 2017 shows red and black fruit, fennel, olive, earth and spice. The palate is currently quite raw and relatively chunky given an alcohol of just 12.5% – six to 12 months in bottle should make all the difference. Wine Cellar price: R145 a bottle.
Editor’s rating: 89/100.
