Full On Misfit Blanc 2020

By , 11 December 2020

Sakkie Mouton is evidently not interested in conforming to standard industry norms and good on him as its precisely this attitude that has been so important in bringing about the massive advances in quality that have been achieved in the last two decades or so.

That said, he brings a very particular aesthetic to bear when it comes to how he styles his wines and a pretty ambitious approach to pricing.

Latest releases is Full On Misfit Blanc 2020, a blend of 56% Chenel (the Chenin Blanc / Ugni Blanc cross), 24% Colombard and 20% Sauvignon Blanc sourced from various West Coast vineyards. The nose shows pear, green apple and an appealing herbal note while the palate is light-bodied (alcohol is 12%) with quite hard acidity and a slightly salty finish – it has the austerity that has marked Mouton’s previous wines and expects to pay a retail price of R420 a bottle.

CE’s rating: 90/100.
