The Landscape Series is the top-end offering from Gabriëlskloof, this collection showcasing the Bot River property’s top sites as well as specially selected vineyards from elsewhere in the country. Tasting notes and ratings for two new releases as follows:

Gabriëlskloof Magdalena Semillon 2022
Price: R385
95% Semillon sourced from both Franschhoek and Swartland and 5% Sauvignon Blanc from Citrusdal Mountain. Matured in barrel for 10 months, 10% new. Citrus, peach and hay on the nose while the palate is powerful and relatively thick textured – dense fruit with seemingly quite moderate acidity. Alc: 13.5%

CE’s rating: 92/100.

Gabriëlskloof Elodie Chenin Blanc 2022
Price: R385
Grapes are predominantly from Swartland old vines but also includes a small portion of own fruit. Spontaneously fermented and matured for 10 months, 70% in old oak and 30% in clay amphorae. Citrus, peach, talcum powder and hay on the nose while the palate is pure and precise – this is not without weight but equally has plenty of drive. Well balanced with a long finish, it’s a delicious drop. Alc: 13%.

CE’s rating: 96/100.

Sometimes wonder if the stunning landscape series is a little lost within a brand and would perhaps receive the higher acclaim and also the following it deserves, if it was a little more stand-alone or spaced a little further from the Gabriëlskloof brand, as the wines are stunning. Always find myself sharing a glass or bottle and going, “I completely forgot about these wines that they do”.

    Just my humble opinion.
