Genevieve new releases

By , 27 July 2022

Melissa Nelsen reveals that because of the disruptions caused by Covid-19, her 2017 bubblies received an extra 12 months on lees, something that’s only done the resulting wines good. Tasting notes and ratings as follows:

Genevieve Blanc de Blancs 2017
Price: R255
From Overberg and Bot River Chardonnay and hence designated as W.O. Cape South Coast. 48 months on the lees. A floral top note before lemon and freshly baked bread plus some light reduction on the nose. The palate is nicely balanced with pure fruit, zippy acidity and a fine mousse, the finish dry but not austere. Clean and focused.

CE’s rating: 92/100.

Genevieve Blanc de Blancs Zero Dosage 2017
Price: R315
More nutty, yeasty character than its counterpart above but also citrus and green apple. The palate is lean and fresh with a very savoury finish – direct and arresting.

CE’s rating: 91/100.
