Glen Heatlie new releases
By Christian Eedes, 4 December 2017
Glen Heatlie is the own label of Joan Heatlie, previously of Solms-Delta but now taking up a position with Chris and Andrea Mullineux, the name recalling the family farm near Worcester. Tasting notes and ratings for the current releases as follows:
Glen Heatlie Agnes Chenin Blanc 2015
Wine Cellar price: R150
From a Paarl vineyard planted in the 1950s. Matured for 10 months in older French oak before a further four months on Verdelho lees. The nose shows naartjie, yellow peach and cut apple plus earth, spice and some yeasty complexity. The palate is rich, broad and flavourful – has a pleasantly oxidative quality about it.
Editor’s rating: 90/100.
Glen Heatlie Raptura Grenache Syrah 2015
Wine Cellar price: R150
A 50:50 blend of Piekenierskloof Grenache and Worcester Syrah. Matured for 12 months in older French oak. Red and black berries, black olive, herbs and spice on the nose while the palate displays good fruit concentration, fresh acidity and fine tannins. No great complexity but very appealing.
Editor’s rating: 89/100.
