Glen Heatlie The Frontier Grenache Blanc 2020

By , 21 March 2023

Joan Heatlie, part of the sixth generation of her family to farm outside Worcester, makes wine under her own label called Glen Heatlie, grapes for her Grenache Blanc 2020 from a young vineyard planted to the north of Wellington, winemaking involving wholebunch spontaneous fermentation before maturation lasting nine months in older oak.

The nose shows a top note of floral perfume before citrus, peach and pineapple as well as traces of earth and spice. The palate has good depth of fruit, tangy acidity and savoury finish (alc: 12.5%). Nice texture, creamy but not too much so, before some pithy bite kicks in. Price: R260 a bottle.

CE’s rating: 92/100.
