Solo Chardonnay 2025

By , 14 July 2026

Carl Schultz’s portfolio of wines under his own Solo label continues to grow after his departure from Hartenberg at the end of 2024 with the addition of a Chardonnay 2025, grapes from the Duiwenhoks River area near Vermaaklikheid, 350 km east of Cape Town.

Fermented and matured for 10 months in 225-litre barrels, of which 20% were new, the wine shows all the deftness that Schultz used to bring to Eleanor, the top-end Chardonnay he used to make at Hartenberg.

Lemon plus hints of oatmeal, vanilla and some nuttiness on the nose while the palate has a reined-in power about it – concentrated fruit matched by punchy acidity, the finish dry. A Chardonnay with both substance and momentum. Alc: 13.59%.

CE’s rating: 94 | Serious
