Hamilton Russel Vineyards Chardonnay 2022

By , 12 October 2023

Impressive to note that total production of the Chardonnay 2022 from Hemel-en-Aarde Valley property Hamilton Russell Vineyards was 66 000 bottles. Given a recommended retail price of R725 a bottle, that’s a tidy little income.

96% of the wine was fermented in a combination of 228- and 300-litre barrels (of which 23% was new) and 4% in foudre before maturation lasting nine months. The nose is still rather primary with top notes of blossom and herbs before pear, lime and lemon plus the merest hint of oak while the palate is light and fresh with a resolutely dry finish. Alc: 13.2%.

CE’s rating: 92/100.
