Hartenberg The Eleanor Chardonnay 2018

By , 25 March 2022

The Eleanor from Hartenberg in Stellenbosch has long been one of the most consistent top-end examples of Chardonnay around, and the current-release 2018 delivers the goods once again. Matured for 12 months in 228-litre barrels of which 50% were new, the nose shows struck match, citrus and a little leesy complexity while the palate has good depth of fruit to go with driving acidity before a super-dry finish. Nicely judged in what was generally considered a challenging year. Price: R475 a bottle.

CE’s rating: 93/100.
