Hasher Family Wines new releases

By , 4 November 2024

Natasha Williams, previously winemaker at Bosman Family Vineyards, arrived at Upper Hemel-Aarde property Hasher Family Vineyards in June 2023, so didn’t vinify that vintage but did put it into bottle. Tasting notes and ratings for the new releases as follows:

Marimist Chardonnay 2023
Price: R495
Matured for nine months in barrel, mostly 228-litre but also some 500-litre, 25% new. Appealing aromatics of lime, lemon and peach plus blossom, fresh herbs and vanilla on the nose. The palate shows pure fruit, bright acidity and a pithy finish. Not without weight (alcohol is 13%) and that much more focused than the previous vintage.

CE’s rating: 91/100.

Ernest Pinot Noir 2023
Price: R540
Matured for 12 months in barrel, 25% new. An early pick to avoid impending rain, alcohol is 13%. Red cherry, floral perfume and vanilla on the nose while the palate is light bodied and fresh with powdery tannins. Delicate, which is not to say insipid, more detail emerging with time in glass.

CE’s rating: 90/100.
