The Haute Collection Amphora Semillon from Haute Cabrière in Franschhoek is “inspired by old Semillon vines” in the district, grapes in fact from a single block planted in the 1990s on Glenwood, winemaking involving fermentation and maturation in 450-litre clay amphorae.
The nose shows lime, white peach plus hints of waxy complexity and earth. As for the palate, this has good fruit definition, well integrated acidity and a gently savoury finish. A subtle and detailed wine with pleasing weight and texture given an alcohol of just 12%. Price: R450 a bottle.
