Hidden Gems 2016

By , 13 December 2019

Annalie van Dyk of Hidden Valley in Stellenbosch knows a thing or two about Cab and Cab blends having previously been involved in the high-end 4G project plus having worked with Andy Erickson of Screaming Eagle fame in Napa, California.

“X” marks the spot.

The Hidden Gems 2016 is a blend of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Petit Verdot and 10% Merlot matured for 18 months in French oak, 20% new. The nose shows red and black berries, violets, fresh herbs, oystershell and oak spice while the palate is medium bodied and well balanced, the finish long and dry – not too rich, not too lean, just right. Price: R235 a bottle.

CE’s rating: 94/100.
