Hier Chenin Blanc 2020

By , 22 December 2021

House of Hier is a collaboration between Lourens van der Westhuizen of Arendsig and entrepreneur Jaco Pienaar, sales mainly via Whatsapp.

Maiden release is a Chenin Blanc 2020 from Robertson grapes, spontaneously fermented and matured for 10 months in neutral oak. Complex aromatics of peach, apricot, dried herbs, a touch of honey, some nuttiness as well as leesy complexity while the palate is rich and broad – good depth and definition of fruit is matched by fresh acidity, the finish long and intensely savoury. A striking if somewhat quirky wine. Price: R350 a bottle.

CE’s rating: 93/100.
