Provençal-esque.

Are local producers finally getting a handle on Rosé? The Holden Manz Hiro 2019 is another example in a small but growing group that demands to be taken seriously. Made from 77% Grenache and 23% Cinsault, the first thing to recommend it is that’s not garishly pink but rather a very pale onion-skin sort of colour. On the nose, subtle hints of floral perfume, red berries and spice while the palate shows pure fruit, nicely integrated acidity and a pithy finish. It’s neither too slight nor too full and is pleasantly smooth textured – just about pitch perfect. Price: R220 a bottle.

CE’s rating: 90/100.
