Iona One Man Band 2010

Marching to the beat of his own drum.

The One Man Band Red is Elgin producer’s signature red blend, the 2010 vintage being a blend of Syrah 44% Syrah, 26% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and 2% Mourvèdre.

It’s a peculiar but immensely likeable – red and black fruit, fresh herbs and spice. Medium bodied with bright acidity and fine tannins before a very savoury finish. It comes across as a Bdx-Rhône mash-up but somehow it works and to its credit, it’s still very much intact. 20 cases were recently sold on the Nederburg Auction for an average price of R3 900, the equivalent of R650 a bottle.

#WinemagRating: 91/100.
