By , 29 October 2018

Is there a glass ceiling when it comes to what a producer can charge for Sauvignon Blanc? Apparently not, if you’re Klein Constantia. Tasting notes and scores for the property’s currently available two top-end bottlings as follows:

Klein Constantia Clara Sauvignon Blanc 2017

Does not come cheap.

Klein Constantia Clara Sauvignon Blanc 2017
Price: R350
Name refers to American heiress Clara Eliza Hussey who purchased Klein Constantia in 1913. Blend of three high-altitude vineyards. Matured in combination of acacia and oak. A wonderfully complex nose of hay, dried herbs, peach, naartjie and white pepper. Good fruit concentration making for nicely coated acidity, the finish long and pithy. Delicious!

Editor’s rating: 92/100.

Klein Constantia Perdeblokke 2017
Price: R290
Matured in neutral oak. The nose shows pear, peach, blackcurrant plus some herbal notes. The palate is pleasantly lean – clean fruit, arresting acidity, the finish long and salty. Very elegant and most particular.

Editor’s rating: 94/100.
