Kottabos Grenache Syrah 2020
By Christian Eedes, 19 April 2021
1
Kottabos sees Reenen Borman of Boschkloof seeking to showcase the Polkadraai area, the red blend always from Grenache and Syrah, 79% of the former variety and 21% of the latter in the case of the 2020.
It’s as engaging as ever. Aromatics of cranberry, raspberry, dried herbs, and white pepper before a palate showing great fruit purity, nicely integrated acidity, and wonderfully fine, powdery tannins. It comes across as really well proportioned – not too light-bodied, refined, and harmonious (alcohol is 13.5%). Price: R185 a bottle.
CE’s rating: 93/100.
