KWV The Mentors Grenache Noir 2015
By Christian Eedes, 4 December 2017
From Wellington fruit, this is the maiden release of a Grenache Noir under KWV’s top-end The Mentors label after five years of trial and error. Unfortunately, it still seems misguided.
The nose shows an unpleasant rubbery note before red and black fruit, spice and, disconcertingly, mint. The palate is sweet, rich and ripe – the idea was apparently to achieve plushness but the wine lacks drinkability. Price: R220 a bottle.
Editor’s rating: 86/100.
