La Motte Pierneef Sauvignon Blanc 2016
By Christian Eedes, 19 April 2017
Pierneef Sauvignon Blanc 2016 from La Motte is a blend of 90% Sauvignon Blanc and 10% Semillon – the Sauvignon Blanc from vineyards in Elgin, Bot River, Elim and Napier and the Semillon from Elim, the wine consequently carrying the fairly new origin designation of Cape South Coast.
On the nose, a floral top note before lime, green apple and white peach. It’s lean and fresh with a pithy finish, striving for elegance and understatement but arguably a bit severe. Price: R120 a bottle.
Editor’s rating: 88/100.
