L’Avenir Glenrosé 2015
By Christian Eedes, 19 November 2015
Most rosé is grape-based alcopop and doesn’t pretend to be anything else so I was intrigued when L’Avenir in Stellenbosch recently announced it was launching a version set to sell at R200 a bottle.
From Pinotage grown on gravelly Glenrosa soil, the wine is called Glenrosé and comes in a bespoke bottle with a protea-shaped punt and glass stopper.
Coral pink in colour, the nose shows aromas of red cherry and raspberry. The palate, meanwhile, is pure and focused with really bright acidity and a pithy finish. One of the most serious pinks around.
#WinemagRating: 88/100.
