Lourensford Cuvée 89 2007
By Christian Eedes, 16 August 2017
The Cuvée 89 2007, a Méthode Cap Classique from Lourensford in Somerset West, gets its name from the fact that it spent 89 months (over seven years) on the lees. Made from predominantly Chardonnay plus a small portion of Pinotage, it shows plenty of developed character on the nose although nothing too weird. The palate has an apple-like quality with bright acidity and a soft, creamy mousse. Only 525 bottles made and a proper curiosity. Price: R740 a bottle.
Editor’s rating: 88/100.
