Miles Mossop The Chapters new releases

The Chapters series of wines from Miles Mossop allows him to seek out interesting vineyard parcels with a view to making carefully crafted small-batch wines. Tasting notes and ratings for the new releases as follows:
Chapter One Cinsault 2022
Price: R295
Grapes from a 1998 Swartland vineyard. 50% whole-bunch fermentation before maturation lasting nine months in concrete egg. Rose, a hint of musk, cranberry, cherry and fynbos on the nose while the palate is light and elegant – clean fruit, zippy acidity and powdery tannins. Alc: 12.5%. Total production: 4 332 bottles.

Chapter Three Chenin Blanc 2022
Price: R295
Grapes from a 1982 Stellenbosch vineyard on shale. Matured for 10 months in 400-litre barrels, 16% new. The nose shows lime, apple and peach plus thatch and some herbal character while the palate is medium bodied with bright acidity and a pithy finish. Already quite accessible – alcohol is 13.5%. Total production: 2 975 bottles.

Chapter Four Sauvignon Blanc 2022
Price: R295
Grapes from a 1986 Stellenbosch vineyard planted on shale. Fermented and matured for 10 months in old 400-litre barrels. Some smoky reduction before yellow apple, apricot, some yeasty complexity and spice. The palate is rich and broad with well-integrated acidty and a gently savoury finish. Nicely textured and full of flavour. Alc: 13.5%. Total production: 2 065 bottles.
