Môrelig Chenin Blanc 2015

Môrelig Vineyards, situated at the foot of the Paardeberg mountain in the Swartland, was acquired by Andrew and Elise Wightman in 2011. There were originally 24ha of vineyard, extra plantings of Vermentino and Macabeu occuring towards the end of last year.

Andrew, who is a building contractor by profession, was convinced to try his hand at winemaking by Craig Hawkins of Testalonga Wines and what started as a hobby is now a fledgling business.

The Chenin Blanc 2015, tasted at the recent Swartland Independent Wyn- , Kos- en Kultuurskou, was particularly charming. Matured for 10 months in old oak, it possesses a very pretty nose of pear, peach, flowers and spice. The palate is light and fresh but still very flavourful. A snip at R95 a bottle.

#WinemagRating: 91/100.
