Môreson Pinotage 2008

By , 7 May 2010

A concession that had to be made last night in order to keep the peace with darling meant I had to forego the Proteas vs. New Zealand in the World Twenty20 to watch e.tv chick flick Elisabethtown starring Orlando Bloom and Kirsten Dunst (verdict: excruciating). We were having spicy Moroccan beef and chickpea soup so I opted for Pinotage, specifically the Môreson 2008 (R135 from the farm). I find wines from this variety work well with hot food  – chilli and other strong flavour seems to tame the firm tannins that Pinotage typically shows allowing the fruit  to shine forth. The soup turned out about as fiery as my wife in a bad mood but the Môreson had more than enough grunt to stand up to it.
