Nala Premium Merlot 2014

By , 7 November 2016

Dumile Soga, a qualified chemical engineer, was so taken with wine that he decided to launch his own brand called Nala Premium, wine from various cellars around the winelands (“Nala” being the Sotho word for “prosperity”). Tasting notes and ratings for the current releases as follows:

Nala Premium Sauvignon Blanc 2015
Price: R570 per six-bottle case
85% Sauvignon Blanc, 11% Semillon, 4% Nouvelle. Green pepper, Granny Smith apple and some cantaloupe plus a subtle herbal  edge. Fruity and fresh – pleasant enough.

#WinemagRating: 86/100.

Nala Premium Merlot 2014

New-wave négociant.

Nala Premium Merlot 2014
Price: R720 per six-bottle case
Red and black fruit, no real green character, oak nicely judged. Medium bodied and fruit driven with soft tannins – most appealing.

#WinemagRating: 87/100.

Nala Preium Cabernet Sauvignon 2014
Price: R870 per six-bottle case
Cassis and a hint of leafiness on the nose. The palate is light bodied with soft tannins but not entirely untrue to the variety – easy drinking.

#WinemagRating: 86/100.
