Nederburg The Winemasters Noble Late Harvest 2015
By Christian Eedes, 5 December 2016
Nederburg, Winery of the Year in Platter’s 2017, recently showed all four of its wines to rate 5 Stars in the guide, some more convincing than others.
Nederburg Private Bin D234 Sauvignon Blanc 2015
For potential sale on auction.
From Darling grapes. A top note of sea breeze before asparagus and cantaloupe. Rich and thick textured before a savoury finish. Makes a huge impression but lacks grace.
#WinemagRating: 87/100.
Nederburg Heritage Heroes The Brew Master 2014
Price: Not yet released.
52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 15% Petit Verdot, 10% Malbec. Matured for 18 months in French oak, 40% new. Red and black fruit, vanilla, pencil shavings and a touch of oyster shell. Full bodied and rich – ripe fruit offset by bright acidity, the tannins rather too firm. A bit foursquare.
#WinemagRating: 89/100.
Nederburg Private Bin R163 Cabernet Sauvignon 2013
For potential sale on auction.
From Paarl grapes. Black fruit, violets plus not unattractive notes of mint and chocolate. Good concentration, fresh acidity and firm but fine tannins. Big but well proportioned.
#WinemagRating: 91/100.
Nederburg The Winemasters Noble Late Harvest 2015
Price: Not yet released.
52% Muscat, 48% Chenin Blanc. A floral top note before peach, apricot and a little spice. Displays great poise on the palate – pure fruity, not too thick textured and zippy acidity. The finish, meanwhile, is long and dry.
#WinemagRating: 94/100.
