Neil Ellis Op Sy Moer 2022

By , 10 June 2024

Op sy moer translates as “on the lees” and this Neil Ellis blend of 53% Palomino and 47% Chenin Blanc from Piekenierskloof was bottled with its fine lees.

On pouring, it presents as cloudy in the glass (the producer recommends letting the sediment settle before decanting). The nose shows citrus, pineapple and lots of yeast complexity while the palate is intensely flavoured with a big acidity. A vigorous wine with lots going on. Gives IPA vibes. Price: R380 a bottle.

CE’s rating: 91/100.
