Nuiba is a range of wines from Suzanne Coetzee, previously of Clos Malverne in Stellenbosch, named after the Namibian cattle farm she grew up on. There are four wines: First Post Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2018 and Second Post Shiraz 2016, both selling for R190 a bottle, Third Post 2016 from Pinotage, Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache, and selling for R285 and finally Fourth Post 2018, a rosé made from Semillon and Malbec, selling for R115.

The stand-out wines are the First Post 2018 and the Second Post 2016, tasting notes and ratings as follows:

Nuiba First Post 2018

Holy cow!

Nuiba First Post 2018
W.O. Stellenbosch. 65% Semillon and 35% Sauvignon Blanc, the former fermented and matured for seven months in barrel before being blended with the unwooded latter. A complex nose with top notes of cut grass and thatch before lemon, peach and yellow apple plus some waxiness. The palate, meanwhile, is rich and broad with coated acidity, the finish possessing some peppery bite. Alcohol: 14%.

Editor’s rating: 92/100.

Nuiba Second Post 2016
W.O. Simonsberg-Paarl. Matured in older French oak for 12 months. Red and black fruit, cracked pepper and some maltiness. The palate is big and bold – plenty of fruit power offset by bright acidity, the tannins relatively soft. Forceful but equally flavourful. Alcohol: 14.5%.

Editor’s rating: 90/100.
