Olifantsberg Pinotage 2016

Good fun.

Worcester cellar Olifantsberg enjoys a growing reputation for quality – Silhouette 2013 was one of the top performers in this year’s Signature Red Blend Report with a rating of 92 on the 100-point quality scale as was the Blanc 2016 in the Cape White Blend Report with a score of 93.

The Pinotage 2016, which involved whole-berry fermentation before maturation lasting 10 months in older oak, is very much new-wave in style and most appealing if not super-complex – notes of red cherry, fynbos and earth on the nose while the palate is fruity and fresh, the tannins none too grippy. Approximate retail price: R150 a bottle.

Editor’s rating: 87/100.
