Patatsfontein Chenin Blanc 2018

Patatsfontein Chenin Blanc from winemaker Reenen Borman and business partners Henk Kotze and Fritz Schoon as part of the Ron Burgundy Wines initiative is surely now established as one of the best examples in the country, the 2018 being the fifth vintage.
From a Montagu vineyard, the yield was reduced on account of the drought that was then gripping the Western Cape. The nose is subtle and enticing with notes of pear, peach, yellow apple, citrus and earth. The palate is flavourful but not weighty with a lovely grainy texture, a slight bitterness to the finish lending interest. As ever, a wine of detail and composure. Wine Cellar price: R355 a bottle.
Editor’s rating: 96/100.
