Patatsfontein Chenin Blanc 2019

By , 21 August 2020

The Patatsfontein Chenin Blanc as made by rising star Reenen Borman from Montagu grapes can be a little closed early on its life but the 2019 is already quite expressive without sacrificing any trademark purity or focus.

The aromatics are extremely complex with top notes of potpourri and talcum powder before lemon, naartjie, apple and peach plus a hint of flinty reduction in the background while the palate has great fruit definition, zesty acidity and a pithy finish. It’s intense but not weighty, beautifully poised, super-detailed and long. Price: R375 a bottle.

CE’s rating: 97/100.
