Paulus Wine Co new releases

By , 9 May 2024

Paulus Wine Co sees Paul Jordaan, Sadie Family Wines winemaker, and partner Pauline Roux, who hails from Southern France, working together to make two examples of Chenin Blanc, winemaking the same in both instances: spontaneous fermentation and maturation lasting some 12 months in old oak barrels and concrete egg – and the results are nothing if not “natty”. Tasting notes and ratings for the new releases as follows:

Bartàs 2022
Price: R350

Grapes from a Helderberg vineyard planted in 1978. Citrus and peach plus a slight nuttiness on the nose. The palate is lean with punchy acidity, some phenolic grip on the finish. An austere expression of the variety, alcohol is 12%.

CE’s rating: 91/100.

Bosberaad 2022
Price: R350
Grapes from a Paardeberg vineyard planted in 1980. Honey, orange, yellow peach, apricot and spice on the nose while the palate is rich and full – good fruit expression and bright acidity before a savoury finish. Alc: 13%

CE’s rating: 92/100.
