Remhoogte Honeybunch Chenin Blanc 2018

On the money.

Honeybunch Chenin Blanc from Remhoogte in Stellenbosch has always been a striking wine, the newly released 2018 again in this vein but perhaps not quite so rich and broad as the 2017 and the better for it to my mind.

Grapes from a 32-year-old vineyard, it was matured for nine months in 225- and 300-litre French oak barrels, 20% new. An eight percent portion was fermented on the skins for six weeks in closed containers.

The wine has a compelling nose of hay, herbs, citrus and peach while the palate is marked by wonderfully concentrated fruit and fresh acidity, the finish long and dry. Pure and vivid, it’s already drinking extremely well (alcohol: 13.45%). Approximate retail price: R200 a bottle.
