Remhoogte Reserve Honeybunch Chenin Blanc 2021

By , 7 November 2022

The Honeybunch Chenin Blanc comes from a 1986 block on Stellenbosch property Remhoogte, harvest delayed in 2021 due to cooler weather in February which led to the grapes retaining a little more freshness than usual.

Winemaking involved some 12 hours of skin contact before spontaneous fermentation and 12 months of maturation in older French oak. Aromatics are enticing with notes of honeysuckle, hay, citrus and peach plus some yeasty complexity while the palate displays a dense core of fruit and snappy acidity before a saline finish. It’s a very nicely weighted wine with plenty of detail – residual sugar is 4.1g/l but you hardly notice. Price: R280 a bottle.

CE’s rating: 95/100.
