Reverie Chenin Blanc 2015
By Christian Eedes, 6 October 2016
The Swartland Chenin Blanc that Winery of Good Hope winemaker Jacques de Klerk makes under his own label called Reverie is becoming something of a benchmark version for the district. From a 1978 vineyard planted on granite, the 2015 was spontaneously fermented and matured for 13 months in old oak.
The nose is wonderfully enticing with top notes of flowers and dried herbs before lime, lemon, white peach, apple and little yeasty complexity. The palate meanwhile is super-intense yet not at all weighty. The acidity is much more punchy than the analysis of 4.8g/l would suggest and the finish is long and extremely savoury. Wine Cellar price: R150 a bottle.
#WinemagRating: 94/100.
