Reverie Chenin Blanc 2017

Dreamy.

Jacques de Klerk of The Winery of Good Hope has for some time made a particular Chenin Blanc under his own Reverie label , the 2017 more so than ever.

From a 1977 Swartland vineyard, winemaking involved four days of skin contact before “a year and a month” in barrel, the wine treated quite oxidatively before the addition of a good portion of wine from the 2018 harvest, De Klerk speaking of a process of “death and resurrection”.

The nose is most enticing – pronounced notes of citrus blossom and frangipani before pear and white peach while the palate is light-bodied (alcohol is 11%) with snappy acidity and a finish that is both savoury and grippy. Hipsters will be in heaven. Price: R220 a bottle.

Editor’s rating: 93/100.
