Reyneke Cornerstone 2019

Cornerstone is the Cape Bordeaux red blend from biodynamic- certified Reyneke in Stellenbosch but the 2019 vintage might well be viewed as turbo-boosted Cabernet Franc, consisting of 75% of this variety plus 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, fermentation taking place in concrete eggs before maturation lasting 18 months in French oak, 30% new.
The nose shows red currant and cassis, rose and some leafiness while the palate is medium-bodied (alcohol is a relatively moderate 13.5%) with pure fruit, lively acidity and crunchy tannins. It’s a rather elegant wine with a nicely dry finish. Price: R255 a bottle.
