Reyneke Cornerstone 2020

By , 6 August 2024

You might think that Cornerstone 2020 from Stellenbosch property Reyneke would tend to be more medium-bodied and elegant given that it consists of 86% Cabernet Franc and 14% Cabernet Sauvignon, but it’s actually quite imposing.

Matured for 18 months, the Cab Franc in second- and third-fill oak and the Cab Sauv in new, alcohol is 13.99%. On the nose, black berries, undergrowth and earth with some fresh herbs, dark rose and oystershell. The palate is rich and full, thick in texture, the finish gently savoury. Not without freshness and grip, it holds the attention but is perhaps a bit rustic overall. Price: R330 a bottle.

CE’s rating: 92/100.
