Reyneke Organic Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon 2019
By Christian Eedes, 10 February 2021
The Organic Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 from Reyneke hugely over-delivers at R90 a bottle. Grapes are sourced from across the Western Cape, one portion directly from the Reyneke plantings in Stellenbosch and another from no lesser grower than Leeuwenkuil in the Swartland and it’s only lightly oaked, 25% matured for eighth months in older oak.
The nose is very expressive with notes of black berries, earth, spice, dried herbs and a slight meaty quality while the palate has great fruit expression, driving acidity and grippy tannins. What it might lack in intricacy, it makes up for in exuberance.
CE’s rating: 92/100.
