Sijnn new releases
By Christian Eedes, 8 July 2022
Sijnn outside Malgas is situated on the banks of the Breede River some 240km east of Cape Town – the rock-strewn bushvines are something to behold and the resulting wines are remarkable in their distinctiveness. Tasting notes and ratings for the new releases as follows:
Sijnn White 2020
Price: R335
78% Chenin Blanc, 9% Roussanne, 7% Viognier and 6% Verdelho. Top notes of potpourri and dried herbs before orange, stone fruit and some leesy character. The palate is rich and thick textured – unrestrained and deeply flavoured. Dense fruit and tangy acidity combine to provide a sweet ‘n sour drinking experience, some spice to the finish.
CE’s rating: 93/100.
Sijnn Red 2018
Price: R430
55% Syrah, 17% Trincadeira, 14% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Mourvèdre and 7% Touriga Nacional. Red and black berries, malt, cured meat, dried herbs and spice on the nose while the palate is full bodied and thick-textured with bright acidity and firm tannins. Definition is arguably slightly lacking but there’s plenty of flavour intensity – not to be trifled with.
CE’s rating: 93/100.
