Steenkamp Ou Bosstok Steen 2022
Grapes from a 1.9ha vineyard planted in 1981. A compilation from two 500-litre barrels, one new and the other second-fill, total production 1 000 bottles. Made by Danie Steytler of Kaapzicht. Honeysuckle, hay, yellow peach, vanilla and spice on the nose. The palate is rich and broad with moderate acidity and a creamy texture. Flavourful but rather old-school in aesthetic, the oak to the fore. Alc: 13.5%.
CE’s rating: 91/100.
Steenkamp Red 2017
50:50 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Matured for 12 months in barrel, 100% new. Red and black berries, dried flowers, herbs, earth and undergrowth on the nose while the palate has good depth and length – concentrated fruit, bright acidity and grippy tannins. Archetypal Stellenbosch red.
CE’s rating: 93/100.
