Stellenrust 54 Barrel Fermented Chenin Blanc 2018

By , 12 December 2019

Da bomb.

The number on the bottle refers to the age of the vineyards in the year the wine was made and as ever with this, it ain’t short of richness. Fermentation in barrel occurred spontaneously and took eight months to complete before an additional month of maturation on the lees.

The nose shows citrus, stone fruit and some waxy character. The palate is super-concentrated, full and round, a terrific line of acidity lending balance and verve. It’s a very flavourful, rather dramatic wine. Approximate retail price: R200 a bottle.

CE’s rating: 94/100.
