Swerwer Tiernes 2023 Franziska Wickens of Paardeberg property Waterval supplies some of the country’s best producers so you imagine husband Jasper gets access to seem fairly decent grapes for his label Swerwer – grapes for the top-end Tiernes Chenin Blanc come from a single site planted in 1983.

The 2023 vintage was spontaneously fermented and matured for 12 months in old oak. The nose shows pear, white peach and lime, alongside notes of herbs and straw. The palate is light and linear (alc. 13%) yet simultaneously intensely flavoured, the fruit particularly well-defined fruit. A wine of real focus and poise. Price: R405 a bottle.

CE’s rating: 95/100.

I bought some right after I tasted it at the Taste Swartland event. An absolute belter!

Franziska & Jasper doing what they do best.
I was privileged recently with mates cycling through the Swartland to meet up with this “vinous” power couple and enjoy a tasting of the entire range in the rustic but authentic cellar.
An awesome experience and the Tiernes found huge favour. As did the entire range.
Exciting stuff happening here in the vineyards.
    A very special wine.

I am sure these are excellent wines but may I suggest that they update their website. It still shows 2019 wines and there appears to be no opportunity to buy direct from the winery . Surely this cannot be true ?
    Cheers
