Tamboerskloof John Spicer Syrah 2011

The Tamboerskloof John Spicer Syrah is the pinnacle offering from Kleinood in Stellenbosch. The recently-released 2011, which comes wrapped in a reproduction of a painting by Katharien de Villiers, daughter of owners Gerard and Libby and trained artist, saw production capped at 1 596 bottles and sells for R695 per bottle.
The maiden 2009 was remarkable for its intensity and depth (see here) and the 2011 appears even more so. The nose shows black fruit, pepper and a slight malty quality while the palate is big and rich, not entirely short of freshness, the tannins already quite mellow. Pair with hearty, full-flavoured food for best results.

If the score is not helping the price, the price must come down or the wine must stay in the winemakers cellar until inflation makes the wine good value at R695 per bottle. Why do winemakers do this?

That score is not helping that price..
