Tamboerskloof Syrah 2014
By Christian Eedes, 28 August 2017
If you like your Syrah dark and deep, the Tamboerskloof from Kleinood in Stellenbosh is one of the most reliable around. The 2014 has just been released and it’s on song. Including 2% Mourvèdre and 2% Viognier, the wine was matured for 19 months in 500-litre barrels, 16% new. On the nose, red and black fruit, pepper and spice plus a subtle malty quality. The palate is medium bodied and well balanced, already quite mellow and smooth in texture. While not exactly cutting edge in style, there’s an admirable vinosity to the wine. Price: R188 a bottle.
Editor’s rating: 90/100.
