Thamnus Chardonnay 2022

By , 31 October 2024

The maiden 2021 vintage of Chardonnay from Overberg property Thamnus rated 90 points in the relevant category report sponsored by Prescient last year, the follow-up 2022 now out (price: R450 a bottle).

Matured for nine months in oak barrels, of which 38% were new, aromatics are exotic with notes of lemon, orange and soft citrus plus pastry and baking spice, and some floral perfume in the background. The palate, meanwhile, is rich and round, succulent fruit offset by zippy acidity. As with the first release, a more hedonistic example of the variety. Alcohol: 13.53%.

CE’s rating: 92/100.
